New Single for Shkayla performed for Irish TV

Joe O’Donnell’s Shkayla are shortly releasing a new single version of ‘O’Neil’s Lament’, designed for radio play.  The release, based on their deservedly popular treatment of the traditional slow air,  is a collaboration with Coventry Irish Society aiming to benefit both parties by raising their profile with different audiences. The project has already resulted in a televised performance for Bob Brolly’s show on Irish TV, for which the broadcast date is to be confirmed shortly.

Bonus tracks

The single goes on sale on May 23rd, both as a download and as a CD. The CD version includes bonus tracks chosen to complement the tenderly beautiful ‘O’Neil’s Lament’ which showcases Joe’s sumptuous violin and features Si Hayden’s inspired guitar. ‘Tap The Barrel’ and ‘Cooley’s Reel’ are a pair of rip-roaring jigs that have long delighted audiences with their high-paced tempo and energy, while ‘Farewell to Old Ireland’ presents Joe’s distinctive mandolin playing and has vocals too.

Coventry Irish Society

Coventry Irish Society is well established in the City of Coventry with its base in Hill Street open from Monday to Friday and outreach activities across the City and the surrounding area. As well as providing a wide range of information and support services to benefit the Irish community it is pro-active in promoting Irish culture. The Society recently partnered Shkayla in promoting the band’s recent Go-Live Website Launch Party at Fargo Village, in addition to the widely-enjoyed Coventry Irish Month which ran throughout March.

Single release date

‘O’Neil’s Lament’ will be released as a single on Saturday 23rd May on Silvery Records and will be available to buy online from the shop on this site. The band appears at Whitefriars in Coventry on May 24th, topping the bill at the Whitefriars May Festival, and at the National Forest Folk Festival on June 28th.
